Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates (X pairs) was the main destination for athletic footwear exports from Bahrain, with a 93% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia (X pairs), with a 3% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was taken by Kuwait (X pairs), with a 2.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates amounted to +71.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+7.3% per year) and Kuwait (+55.0% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for athletic footwear exports from Bahrain, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 7.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United Arab Emirates amounted to +71.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+15.9% per year) and Kuwait (+71.1% per year).

The average athletic footwear export price stood at $X per pair in 2022, which is down by -53.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 71% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per pair. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per pair), while the average price for exports to Jordan ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Bahrain

In 2022, supplies from abroad of athletic footwear was finally on the rise to reach X pairs for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X pairs. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, athletic footwear imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 48%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X pairs) constituted the largest supplier of athletic footwear to Bahrain, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, athletic footwear imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X pairs), twofold. Indonesia (X pairs) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +15.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+41.7% per year) and Indonesia (+36.2% per year).

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), China ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the largest athletic footwear suppliers to Bahrain, with a combined 95% share of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +69.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average athletic footwear import price amounted to $X per pair, growing by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 67% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per pair), while the price for India ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.
