Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for cheese and curd exports from Bahrain, accounting for a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, cheese and curd exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Oman (X tons), with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Saudi Arabia totaled +1.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-5.1% per year) and Oman (-0.4% per year).
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for cheese and curd exports from Bahrain, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 9.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Saudi Arabia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-1.7% per year) and Kuwait (-2.5% per year).

The average cheese and curd export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 6.7% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Kuwait ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) and Oman ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bahrain
In 2022, the amount of cheese and curd imported into Bahrain shrank to X tons, waning by -1.9% against 2021 figures. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cheese and curd imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of cheese and curd imports to Bahrain, with a combined 51% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +22.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), the United States ($X) and Ireland ($X) constituted the largest cheese and curd suppliers to Bahrain, together accounting for 49% of total imports. Denmark, New Zealand, Turkey, Australia, France, India, Germany, Poland and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
