The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 963% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chili and pepper exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 839% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for chili and pepper exports from Bahrain, with a 90% share of total exports. Moreover, chili and pepper exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Free Zones (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Oman (X tons), with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States totaled +63.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Free Zones (-12.6% per year) and Oman (-48.8% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for chilies and peppers (green) exports from Bahrain, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Free Zones ($X), with a 6% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 2.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at +48.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Free Zones (+4.7% per year) and Oman (-26.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average chili and pepper export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 110% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Free Zones ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+43.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bahrain
In 2022, purchases abroad of chilies and peppers (green) increased by 2.9% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -24.2% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chili and pepper imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +10.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Jordan (X tons), India (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main suppliers of chili and pepper imports to Bahrain, with a combined 89% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Jordan (with a CAGR of +16.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X), Jordan ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the largest chili and pepper suppliers to Bahrain, with a combined 77% share of total imports.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
