In 2022, common pottery exports from Bahrain reduced sharply to X tons, with a decrease of -61.7% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports saw a drastic downturn. Kuwait (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the main destinations of common pottery exports from Bahrain, with a combined 85% share of total exports. Qatar, Oman, Germany and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +433.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for common pottery exports from Bahrain, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Qatar, with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Saudi Arabia amounted to -8.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (-12.1% per year) and Qatar (+11.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average common pottery export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 20% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 93% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+87.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bahrain

In 2022, overseas purchases of common pottery were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, common pottery imports surged to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest common pottery supplier to Bahrain, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, common pottery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), ninefold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+18.3% per year) and India (+8.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of common pottery to Bahrain, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 6.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 4.4% share.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 46% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
