In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Bahraini plastic household articles market, when its value decreased by -0.1% to $X. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for plastic household articles exports from Bahrain, accounting for a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic household articles exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Egypt (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 2.6% share.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for household articles and toilet articles of plastics exports from Bahrain, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Saudi Arabia amounted to +6.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+316.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+22.4% per year).

The average plastic household articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 83% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+41.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bahrain

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics decreased by -7.1% to X tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic household articles imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +64.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 26%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

China (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic household articles imports to Bahrain, with a combined 66% share of total imports. India, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, the United States, Thailand and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +31.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of household articles and toilet articles of plastics to Bahrain, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +5.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (+10.5% per year) and Turkey (+32.2% per year).

The average plastic household articles import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 14%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
