Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -5.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. South Africa (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of lemon and lime imports to Bahrain, together comprising 72% of total imports. Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Syrian Arab Republic, Somalia, India and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +58.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Vietnam ($X) constituted the largest lemon and lime suppliers to Bahrain, with a combined 70% share of total imports.
