Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, odoriferous substance mixture exports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 6,813%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.

Pakistan (X tons) was the main destination for odoriferous substance mixture exports from Bahrain, with a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 1.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Pakistan was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+16.6% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+73.3% per year).

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of mixtures of odoriferous substances and their preparations decreased by -2.2% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, odoriferous substance mixture imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +74.9% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Switzerland (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of odoriferous substance mixture imports to Bahrain, together comprising 40% of total imports. Turkey, India, the Netherlands, Thailand, Malta, Egypt, the UK, Spain and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 52%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +56.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
