In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in the Bahraini natural rubber and gum market, when its value increased by 4.3% to $X. In general, consumption, however, showed a dramatic shrinkage. Natural rubber and gum consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 300% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Saudi Arabia (X kg) was the main destination for natural rubber and gum exports from Bahrain, with a approx. 3.8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Saudi Arabia amounted to -36.9%.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for natural rubber and gums exports from Bahrain.

In 2022, the average natural rubber and gum export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -46.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 154% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Saudi Arabia.

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of natural rubber and gums increased by 107% to X kg in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a sharp slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 10,947%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, natural rubber and gum imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 10,612% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United States (X kg) constituted the largest natural rubber and gum supplier to Bahrain, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, natural rubber and gum imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Denmark (X kg), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X kg), with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States amounted to +8.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+38.4% per year) and China (-33.4% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of natural rubber and gums to Bahrain, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Denmark ($X), with a 29% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the United States totaled +8.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+597.5% per year) and China (-23.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average natural rubber and gum import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -19% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 298% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the price for the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+403.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
