In general, exports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 685%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, register book exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 1,099%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Qatar (X tons) was the main destination for register book exports from Bahrain, accounting for a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, register book exports to Qatar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Saudi Arabia (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Qatar totaled +40.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+26.4% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-3.4% per year).

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for registers, account books, order books and receipt books exports from Bahrain, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Qatar ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Saudi Arabia totaled +54.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Qatar (+38.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-4.8% per year).

The average register book export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -39.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 53% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+58.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, purchases abroad of registers, account books, order books and receipt books increased by 190% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild reduction. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, register book imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Indonesia (X tons), China (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of register book imports to Bahrain, together comprising 77% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, India, the United States and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +20.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average register book import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -28.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 39% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
