From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, relay exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a mild expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 899% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X units) was the main destination for relay exports from Bahrain, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, relay exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Singapore (X units), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Saudi Arabia stood at -5.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+44.5% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+37.8% per year).

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for relays exports from Bahrain, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 1.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Saudi Arabia totaled +4.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+12.1% per year) and Singapore (+75.8% per year).

In 2022, the average relay export price amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 53% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 59% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+21.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Bahrain

In 2022, purchases abroad of relays was finally on the rise to reach X units after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 164%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, relay imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest relay supplier to Bahrain, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, relay imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X units), threefold. Italy (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +5.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+23.6% per year) and Italy (+24.3% per year).

In value terms, Japan ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest relay suppliers to Bahrain, together comprising 40% of total imports. Germany, France, the United States, the UK, Indonesia, India, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +98.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average relay import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
