Overall, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 261%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 243% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. The UK (X units) was the main destination for exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Bangladesh, accounting for a 69% share of total exports. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -22.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Sri Lanka (X units) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container to Bangladesh, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Sri Lanka exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Saudi Arabia (X units), fourfold. China (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Sri Lanka amounted to +22.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (-7.2% per year) and China (+25.2% per year).

In value terms, Sri Lanka ($X) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Bangladesh, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Sri Lanka stood at +23.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (-9.7% per year) and China (+27.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average import price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -7.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 12%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the price for India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
