Antisera Market Size in Bangladesh

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Bangladeshi antisera market, when its value decreased by -45.7% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. Antisera consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of antisera and other blood fractions decreased by -96.9% to X kg in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 2,080%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X kg in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, antisera exports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 1,860%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Canada (X kg) was the main destination for antisera exports from Bangladesh, accounting for a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, antisera exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Switzerland (X kg), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by South Korea (X kg), with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada totaled -3.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Switzerland (-8.3% per year) and South Korea (0.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for antisera exported from Bangladesh were Germany ($X), South Korea ($X) and Switzerland ($X), together accounting for 73% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Switzerland, with a CAGR of +20.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average antisera export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -56.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 602%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+31.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bangladesh

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of antisera and other blood fractions decreased by -51.9% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 151% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In value terms, antisera imports fell notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 42%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of antisera to Bangladesh, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, antisera imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X tons), twofold. South Korea (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +61.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+6.4% per year) and South Korea (+30.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), South Korea ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest antisera suppliers to Bangladesh, together comprising 31% of total imports.

China, with a CAGR of +79.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average antisera import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 36% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable shrinkage. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
