Stationery Market Size in Bangladesh

The Bangladeshi stationery market reached $X in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Stationery consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Stationery Production in Bangladesh

In value terms, stationery production expanded modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Stationery production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Bangladesh

In 2022, stationery exports from Bangladesh reduced to X tons, falling by -13.8% compared with 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 102% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, stationery exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons), Sri Lanka (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of stationery exports from Bangladesh, together comprising 34% of total exports. The Netherlands, Myanmar, Slovenia, Jordan, New Zealand, Guatemala, Spain, Bahrain, Switzerland and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Slovenia (with a CAGR of +169.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), France ($X) and Switzerland ($X) constituted the largest markets for stationery exported from Bangladesh worldwide, with a combined 38% share of total exports. Slovenia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Jordan, Guatemala, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Spain, Myanmar and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Slovenia, with a CAGR of +176.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average stationery export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded temperate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 58% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Guatemala (+37.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bangladesh

In 2022, approx. X tons of articles of stationery were imported into Bangladesh; reducing by -17.6% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 92%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, stationery imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 295% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest stationery supplier to Bangladesh, with a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, stationery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X tons), with a 2.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +8.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+23.7% per year) and India (-9.8% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of articles of stationery to Bangladesh, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 4.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 2.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +17.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+20.2% per year) and Turkey (+32.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average stationery import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 105%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+20.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
