In 2022, overseas shipments of beer were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, faced a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The average beer export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 7.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. In 2022, purchases abroad of beer increased by 44% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, beer imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 45%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Singapore (X tons), China (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main suppliers of beer imports to Bangladesh, together comprising 57% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +49.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
