The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 5,876% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Indonesia (X units) was the main destination for magnetic card exports from Bangladesh, accounting for a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by France (X units), with a 0.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Indonesia was relatively modest.
In value terms, France ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for cards incorporating a magnetic stripe exports from Bangladesh.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to France amounted to -46.2%.

In 2021, the average magnetic card export price amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -24.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt shrinkage. Imports into Bangladesh
In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of cards incorporating a magnetic stripe, when their volume increased by 258% to X units. Overall, imports, however, faced a deep reduction. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, magnetic card imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a precipitous shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 144%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest magnetic card supplier to Bangladesh, accounting for a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, magnetic card imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by New Zealand (X units), with a 17% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +1.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+20.6% per year) and New Zealand (+14.7% per year).
In value terms, China ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and New Zealand ($X) appeared to be the largest magnetic card suppliers to Bangladesh, with a combined 61% share of total imports. Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR, South Korea and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
Among the main suppliers, Turkey, with a CAGR of +16.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average magnetic card import price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -34.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 29%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+13.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
