Other Cereals Market Size in Bangladesh

The Bangladeshi other cereals market dropped dramatically to $X in 2021, falling by -68.6% against the previous year. Malaysia (X tons) was the main destination for other cereals exports from Bangladesh, with a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, other cereals exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), twofold.

The average other cereals export price stood at $X per ton in 2018, growing by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports into Bangladesh

In 2021, purchases abroad of other cerealses decreased by -72.5% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 356%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, other cereals imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 331% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of other cereals to Bangladesh, accounting for a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, other cereals imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X kg), with a 3.8% share.

The average other cereals import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 59% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
