Other Cereals Market Size in Bangladesh
The Bangladeshi other cereals market dropped dramatically to $X in 2021, falling by -68.6% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). For the third year in a row, Bangladesh recorded growth in overseas shipments of other cerealses, which increased by 48% to X tons in 2018. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 645%. The exports peaked in 2018 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, other cereals exports surged to $X in 2018. Over the period under review, exports saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 783% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2018 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Malaysia (X tons) was the main destination for other cereals exports from Bangladesh, with a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, other cereals exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Malaysia totaled -5.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+5.5% per year) and Kuwait (+5.9% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Kuwait ($X) were the largest markets for other cereals exported from Bangladesh worldwide.
Among the main countries of destination, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +37.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average other cereals export price stood at $X per ton in 2018, growing by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+45.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bangladesh
In 2021, purchases abroad of other cerealses decreased by -72.5% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 356%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, other cereals imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 331% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of other cereals to Bangladesh, accounting for a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, other cereals imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X kg), with a 3.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +55.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-18.2% per year) and Thailand (+4.9% per year).
In value terms, the largest other cereals suppliers to Bangladesh were China ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and India ($X), together accounting for 77% of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +33.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
The average other cereals import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 59% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
