The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 240% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Thailand (X tons) was the main destination for cow peas exports from Bangladesh, accounting for a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, cow peas exports to Thailand exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X kg), more than tenfold. Singapore (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 1.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Thailand totaled +1.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-22.2% per year) and Singapore (-25.2% per year).
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the key foreign market for cow peas (dry) exports from Bangladesh, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 1.3% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 1.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Thailand totaled +2.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-17.5% per year) and the UK (-13.6% per year).

In 2022, the average cow peas export price amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, export price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+107.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bangladesh
In 2022, overseas purchases of cow peas (dry) decreased by -2.4% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after nine years of growth. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 202% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cow peas imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 197%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Singapore (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cow peas to Bangladesh, accounting for a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, cow peas imports from Singapore exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by South Korea (X tons), with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Singapore amounted to +82.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+31.9% per year) and South Korea (+82.8% per year).
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cow peas (dry) to Bangladesh, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 7% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Singapore amounted to +98.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+26.4% per year) and Thailand (+45.1% per year).
