Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Japan (X tons), the United States (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of dry bean exports from Bangladesh, with a combined 65% share of total exports.

In 2022, the amount of beans (dry) imported into Bangladesh contracted significantly to X tons, falling by -22.5% against the year before. In general, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -12.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 134%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -32.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 141% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Myanmar (X tons) constituted the largest dry bean supplier to Bangladesh, with a 38% share of total imports. Moreover, dry bean imports from Myanmar exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Tanzania (X tons), twofold. Mozambique (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Myanmar amounted to -4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tanzania (+66.3% per year) and Mozambique (+91.4% per year).
In value terms, Myanmar ($X) constituted the largest supplier of beans (dry) to Bangladesh, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Mozambique, with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Myanmar amounted to -1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tanzania (+64.1% per year) and Mozambique (+46.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average dry bean import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 3.7% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, dry bean import price increased by +97.6% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 85% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were India ($X per ton) and Myanmar ($X per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($X per ton) and Mozambique ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
