After two years of decline, the Bangladeshi preserved frozen potato market increased by 29% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a buoyant expansion. Preserved frozen potato consumption peaked at $X in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In general, exports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 363% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preserved frozen potato exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 527% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tons), Brunei Darussalam (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main destinations of preserved frozen potato exports from Bangladesh, with a combined 58% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Saudi Arabia, the UK, Sweden, Malaysia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 35%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +38.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the UK ($X), India ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest markets for preserved frozen potato exported from Bangladesh worldwide, with a combined 62% share of total exports.

In 2021, overseas purchases of frozen potatoes prepared or preserved were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 69%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, preserved frozen potato imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted prominent growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of preserved frozen potato imports to Bangladesh, together accounting for 91% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +36.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
