In 2021, the Bangladeshi hairpin market increased by 57% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, faced a dramatic curtailment. In 2021, overseas shipments of hairpins, curling pins, curling grips and hair-curlers increased by 80% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 206% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hairpin exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 149% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Kuwait (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) were the main destinations of hairpin exports from Bangladesh, with a combined 54% share of total exports. El Salvador, Nicaragua, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Nicaragua (with a CAGR of +241.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 123%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hairpin imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a sharp shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 142%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

India (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of hairpin imports to Bangladesh, with a combined 99% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +19.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest hairpin suppliers to Bangladesh were India ($X), China ($X) and Thailand ($X), together accounting for 88% of total imports.
