The Bangladeshi non-wheat flour market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -7.2% against 2018 indices. Exports from Bangladesh
In 2021, shipments abroad of non-wheat flours increased by 11% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 76%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat flour exports reached $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 58%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main destinations of non-wheat flour exports from Bangladesh, together accounting for 79% of total exports. These countries were followed by Maldives, Singapore, Cyprus and Oman, which together accounted for a further 15%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Cyprus (with a CAGR of +47.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for non-wheat flour exported from Bangladesh were the United States ($X), Canada ($X) and Maldives ($X), with a combined 77% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Kuwait, Cyprus, Oman and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 18%.
Among the main countries of destination, Cyprus, with a CAGR of +39.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-wheat flour export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -9.5% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-wheat flour export price decreased by -27.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 104%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cyprus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+55.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bangladesh
Non-wheat flour imports into Bangladesh fell notably to X tons in 2021, waning by -15.4% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 163%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 208% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-wheat flour imports to Bangladesh, together accounting for 89% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +60.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-wheat flour suppliers to Bangladesh were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 90% share of total imports.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +81.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-wheat flour import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -33.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 81%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced notably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+21.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
