Malaysia (X kg) was the main destination for olive oil exports from Bangladesh, accounting for a approx. 30% share of total exports.

Imports into Bangladesh

After four years of growth, overseas purchases of olive oil and its fractions decreased by -13% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 125%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, olive oil imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 171% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main suppliers of olive oil imports to Bangladesh, with a combined 48% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Canada (with a CAGR of +23.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest olive oil suppliers to Bangladesh were Spain ($X), Italy ($X) and Canada ($X), together comprising 48% of total imports.

Italy, with a CAGR of +23.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average olive oil import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, olive oil import price decreased by -16.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
