Particle Board Market Size in Bangladesh

In 2022, the Bangladeshi particle board market increased by 153% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, showed a dramatic slump. Particle board consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, particle board production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 14%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Bangladesh

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of particle board, when their volume decreased by -8.9% to X cubic meters. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 144% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, particle board exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 175%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

India (X cubic meters) was the main destination for particle board exports from Bangladesh, accounting for a 90% share of total exports. Moreover, particle board exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Singapore (X cubic meters), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to India totaled +34.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+42.3% per year) and Malaysia (-24.0% per year).

In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for particle board exports from Bangladesh, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 7.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to India totaled +22.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+31.5% per year) and Malaysia (-27.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average particle board export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, dropping by -6.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 14%. The export price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to India ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (-5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Bangladesh

In 2022, approx. X cubic meters of particle board were imported into Bangladesh; which is down by -27.4% against 2021. In general, imports saw a dramatic decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 198%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, particle board imports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 194%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X cubic meters) constituted the largest particle board supplier to Bangladesh, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, particle board imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X cubic meters), threefold. Malaysia (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +16.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-21.9% per year) and Malaysia (-35.0% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of particle board to Bangladesh, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with an 8.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +27.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-22.0% per year) and Malaysia (-35.9% per year).

The average particle board import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, declining by -7.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 94% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Malaysia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
