In value terms, potato exports declined modestly to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 124%. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Malaysia (X tons), Sri Lanka (X tons) and Nepal (X tons) were the main destinations of potato exports from Bangladesh, with a combined 86% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Nepal (with a CAGR of +99.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for potato exported from Bangladesh were Malaysia ($X), Sri Lanka ($X) and Nepal ($X), together accounting for 86% of total exports.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 20%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bangladesh
In 2021, approx. X tons of potatoes were imported into Bangladesh; dropping by -73% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports faced a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 161%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, potato imports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 153% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of potato to Bangladesh, accounting for a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, potato imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), ninefold. Australia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Netherlands amounted to -16.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+28.2% per year) and Australia (0.0% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of potato to Bangladesh, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with a 6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands amounted to -12.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+35.1% per year) and Australia (0.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average potato import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.8% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, potato import price increased by +53.2% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
