In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of provitamins and vitamins, when their volume increased by 14% to X tons. Overall, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 282%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vitamin exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 352%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Nepal (X tons), Ethiopia (X kg) and Sri Lanka (X kg) were the main destinations of vitamin exports from Bangladesh, with a combined 68% share of total exports. Malaysia, Jordan, Vietnam, Mongolia and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +34.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Sri Lanka ($X), Nepal ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the largest markets for vitamin exported from Bangladesh worldwide, with a combined 80% share of total exports.
Nepal, with a CAGR of +94.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average vitamin export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 71% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 248%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Jordan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nepal (+62.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bangladesh
In 2021, purchases abroad of provitamins and vitamins increased by 15% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, vitamin imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of vitamin to Bangladesh, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, vitamin imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Singapore (X tons), with a 9.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +10.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+1.0% per year) and Singapore (+5.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of provitamins and vitamins to Bangladesh, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +6.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+1.7% per year) and India (+4.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average vitamin import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 33% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
