From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Korea (X units), China (X units) and Singapore (X units) were the main destinations of semiconductor LED exports from Bangladesh, with a combined 84% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Singapore (with a CAGR of +116.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the largest markets for semiconductor LED exported from Bangladesh worldwide, with a combined 49% share of total exports.

Singapore, with a CAGR of +184.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average semiconductor LED export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 263%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+53.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bangladesh

For the third consecutive year, Bangladesh recorded growth in purchases abroad of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs), which increased by 17% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, semiconductor LED imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +33.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X units) was the main supplier of semiconductor LED to Bangladesh, with a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, semiconductor LED imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X units), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +14.7%.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) to Bangladesh, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 5.2% share of total imports.
