In general, exports continue to indicate buoyant growth. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, silicone exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Singapore (X tons) was the main destination for silicone exports from Bangladesh, with a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, silicone exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X tons), threefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Singapore totaled -17.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-49.2% per year) and Turkey (-8.0% per year).

Over the period under review, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, silicone imports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

India (X tons), China (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main suppliers of silicone imports to Bangladesh, with a combined 72% share of total imports. Germany, Turkey, Thailand, Taiwan (Chinese) and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
