Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 155%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silk yarn imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 216% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest silk yarn supplier to Bangladesh, accounting for a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, silk yarn imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold.
