The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Imports into Bangladesh
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of sweet corn prepared or preserved decreased by -20.1% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, preserved sweet corn imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of preserved sweet corn to Bangladesh, accounting for a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved sweet corn imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), tenfold. Malaysia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +27.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-0.7% per year) and Malaysia (+57.3% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sweet corn prepared or preserved to Bangladesh, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +35.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+88.3% per year) and Thailand (+6.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average preserved sweet corn import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+19.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
