Glass Fiber Market Size in Bangladesh
After seven years of growth, the Bangladeshi glass fiber market decreased by -6.2% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, saw a significant expansion. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports from Bangladesh
In 2021, exports of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers from Bangladesh declined dramatically to X tons, dropping by -27.4% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 544% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, glass fiber exports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 301% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
India (X tons) was the main destination for glass fiber exports from Bangladesh, accounting for a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, glass fiber exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Serbia (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to India amounted to +19.2%.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers exports from Bangladesh, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Serbia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to India totaled +6.0%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average glass fiber export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to India amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+64.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Bangladesh
In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers, when their volume decreased by -7.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 160% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, glass fiber imports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 229% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest glass fiber supplier to Bangladesh, accounting for a 87% share of total imports. Moreover, glass fiber imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Saudi Arabia (X tons), with a 1.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +16.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+19.0% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+53.8% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers to Bangladesh, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 2.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 1.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +24.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+17.9% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+78.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average glass fiber import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+15.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
