In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 564%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, preserved anchovies imports expanded to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 531% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of preserved anchovies to Belarus, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved anchovies imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), more than tenfold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Russia amounted to +140.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+39.7% per year) and China (+16.8% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of anchovies (prepared or preserved) to Belarus, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 5% share of total imports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Russia stood at +93.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+31.6% per year) and Ukraine (+22.1% per year).

The average preserved anchovies import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 20%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
