Apricot Market Size in Belarus

The Belarusian apricot market fell to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -5.7% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption showed a slight decrease. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after five years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of apricots, when their volume increased by 6% to X tons. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep setback. Kazakhstan (X tons) was the main destination for apricot exports from Belarus, with a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, apricot exports to Kazakhstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X tons), threefold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kazakhstan totaled +32.9%.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the key foreign market for apricots exports from Belarus, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.

In 2022, the average apricot export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -27.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 110% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+0.3%).

In 2022, approx. X tons of apricots were imported into Belarus; waning by -6.8% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 73%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Moldova (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of apricot to Belarus, with a 35% share of total imports. Moreover, apricot imports from Moldova exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), twofold. Turkey (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Moldova stood at -2.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+10.0% per year) and Turkey (-6.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest apricot suppliers to Belarus were Moldova ($X), Spain ($X) and Turkey ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports. Azerbaijan, Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Romania, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +14.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average apricot import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 2.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the price for Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
