Base Metal Closure Market Size in Belarus
After three years of decline, the Belarusian base metal closure market increased by 2.4% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, base metal closure production rose slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Base metal closure production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Belarus
For the fourth consecutive year, Belarus recorded growth in shipments abroad of base metal closures, stoppers, caps and lids, which increased by 12% to X tons in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +56.8% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, base metal closure exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +88.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Russia (X tons) was the main destination for base metal closure exports from Belarus, accounting for a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, base metal closure exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uzbekistan (X tons), sevenfold. Ukraine (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia totaled +5.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+19.9% per year) and Ukraine (+21.4% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for base metal closures, stoppers, caps and lids exports from Belarus, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with an 8.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia stood at +2.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+18.4% per year) and Uzbekistan (+13.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average base metal closure export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkmenistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Belarus
For the fourth consecutive year, Belarus recorded growth in supplies from abroad of base metal closures, stoppers, caps and lids, which increased by 25% to X tons in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +46.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, base metal closure imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +38.1% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Russia (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) were the main suppliers of base metal closure imports to Belarus, together accounting for 83% of total imports. Poland, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Slovakia and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +41.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Ukraine ($X), Russia ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest base metal closure suppliers to Belarus, together comprising 80% of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Lithuania, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 16%.
Among the main suppliers, Hungary, with a CAGR of +35.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average base metal closure import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+30.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
