After three years of decline, the Belarusian broom, brush, and mop market increased by 115% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Exports from Belarus
After seven years of growth, shipments abroad of brooms, brushes, and mops decreased by -13% to X units in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, broom, brush, and mop exports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
Russia (X units) was the main destination for broom, brush, and mop exports from Belarus, accounting for a 83% share of total exports. Moreover, broom, brush, and mop exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X units), eightfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia stood at +27.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+41.0% per year) and Kazakhstan (+29.9% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for brooms, brushes, and mops exports from Belarus, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with an 8.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia amounted to +16.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+16.0% per year) and Kazakhstan (+13.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average broom, brush, and mop export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 7.6%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (-8.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Brooms, Brushes, And Mops
Imports into Belarus
For the third year in a row, Belarus recorded growth in purchases abroad of brooms, brushes, and mops, which increased by 22% to X units in 2022. In general, imports saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 45%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, broom, brush, and mop imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +97.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of broom, brush, and mop to Belarus, accounting for a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, broom, brush, and mop imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X units), fourfold. Italy (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +21.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+16.1% per year) and Italy (+6.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest broom, brush, and mop suppliers to Belarus were Russia ($X), China ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 84% share of total imports.
Russia, with a CAGR of +13.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average broom, brush, and mop import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -22.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while the price for Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
