The Belarusian trailer and semi-trailer market fell to $X in 2022, which is down by -11% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. Trailer and semi-trailer consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Belarus

In 2022, overseas shipments of cargo trailers and semi-trailers decreased by -16.5% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 54% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia (X units) was the main destination for trailer and semi-trailer exports from Belarus, accounting for a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, trailer and semi-trailer exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lithuania (X units), tenfold. Kazakhstan (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia totaled -12.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (+16.6% per year) and Kazakhstan (-12.0% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for cargo trailers and semi-trailers exports from Belarus, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 9.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia stood at -15.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (-10.9% per year) and Ukraine (-10.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average trailer and semi-trailer export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -2.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 76%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Belarus

In 2022, purchases abroad of cargo trailers and semi-trailers decreased by -16.4% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate mild growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 77% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer imports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 92%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X units) constituted the largest supplier of trailer and semi-trailer to Belarus, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, trailer and semi-trailer imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Poland (X units), with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia stood at +17.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-6.5% per year) and Poland (-3.4% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cargo trailers and semi-trailers to Belarus, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to -3.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+1.0% per year) and Russia (+12.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average trailer and semi-trailer import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
