For the fourth consecutive year, Belarus recorded growth in shipments abroad of cheese, which increased by 8.6% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +119.5% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, cheese exports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +85.7% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for cheese exports from Belarus, accounting for a 94% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine (X tons), with a 2.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia amounted to +8.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+30.4% per year) and Kazakhstan (+29.7% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for cheese exports from Belarus, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 2.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia stood at +7.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+29.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (+26.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average cheese export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 25%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Belarus
In 2021, the amount of cheese imported into Belarus skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 15% on 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 107%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cheese imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 92% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cheese to Belarus, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, cheese imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia totaled +6.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+28.2% per year) and Germany (+7.8% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cheese to Belarus, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Russia totaled +5.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+28.2% per year) and Italy (+25.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average cheese import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+17.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
