The Belarusian fiberboard market expanded to $X in 2022, picking up by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 99% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X cubic meters in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, fiberboard exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 95%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Russia (X cubic meters), Ukraine (X cubic meters) and Poland (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of fiberboard exports from Belarus, with a combined 73% share of total exports. Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +67.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for fiberboard exported from Belarus were Russia ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Poland ($X), together comprising 71% of total exports. Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Romania and Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

The average fiberboard export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, rising by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 55%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Kazakhstan ($X per cubic meter) and Romania ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per cubic meter) and Lithuania ($X per cubic meter) were amongst the lowest.

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of fiber board of wood or other ligneous materials decreased by -36.2% to X cubic meters in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fiberboard imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Russia (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of fiberboard to Belarus, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, fiberboard imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X cubic meters), threefold. Poland (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (-1.0% per year) and Poland (-6.3% per year).
