Russia (X tons) was the main destination for lettuce and chicory exports from Belarus, with a 99% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), with a 0.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia totaled +22.8%.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for lettuce and chicory exports from Belarus, comprising 100% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 0.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia amounted to +22.6%.

In 2022, the average lettuce and chicory export price amounted to $X per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 87%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (-0.2%).

Imports into Belarus
In 2022, overseas purchases of lettuce and chicory decreased by -38.6% to X tons, falling for the seventh consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 776%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lettuce and chicory imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 387%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of lettuce and chicory to Belarus, with a 34% share of total imports. Moreover, lettuce and chicory imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), threefold. Lebanon (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain stood at +27.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+65.5% per year) and Lebanon (+30.3% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lettuce and chicory to Belarus, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Spain stood at +23.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+61.1% per year) and the Netherlands (+7.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average lettuce and chicory import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 8.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 13%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the price for Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+14.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
