Mixed Fertilizer Market Size in Belarus

The Belarusian mixed fertilizer market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, increasing by 360% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible descent. Mixed fertilizer consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mixed fertilizer production reduced to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 18% against the previous year. Mixed fertilizer production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Belarus

In 2022, overseas shipments of mixed fertilizers decreased by -14.4% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, mixed fertilizer exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 79%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Lithuania (X tons) was the main destination for mixed fertilizer exports from Belarus, accounting for a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, mixed fertilizer exports to Lithuania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Poland (X tons), with a 4.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Lithuania amounted to +20.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+7.4% per year) and Poland (+14.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for mixed fertilizer exported from Belarus were Lithuania ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 89% share of total exports. Latvia and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 4.7%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +33.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average mixed fertilizer export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -8.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Belarus

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of mixed fertilizers decreased by -0.7% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mixed fertilizer imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) was the main mixed fertilizer supplier to Belarus, with a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, mixed fertilizer imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Kazakhstan (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Russia was relatively modest.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of mixed fertilizers to Belarus, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 1.9% share of total imports.

The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
