In value terms, motor vehicle engine exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 128%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for motor vehicle engine exports from Belarus, accounting for a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine (X tons), with a 2.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia stood at +18.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+63.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (-43.1% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for motor vehicle engines (spark-ignition) exports from Belarus, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia stood at +22.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+64.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (-40.3% per year).

In 2021, the average motor vehicle engine export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 73%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Belarus

In 2021, overseas purchases of motor vehicle engines (spark-ignition) increased by 6.3% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +40.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, motor vehicle engine imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 160%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) were the main suppliers of motor vehicle engine imports to Belarus, with a combined 46% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, China, Spain, Russia, Poland, France, Japan and Australia, which together accounted for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Australia (with a CAGR of +103.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest motor vehicle engine suppliers to Belarus were China ($X), Germany ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 60% share of total imports. Lithuania, the UK, the United States, Poland, Spain, France, Japan and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

Australia, with a CAGR of +95.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average motor vehicle engine import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -53.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 119%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell notably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Australia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
