The Belarusian non-medical x-ray market surged to $X in 2021, jumping by 139% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. Non-medical x-ray consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Non-medical x-ray exports from Belarus declined to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -10.7% against the year before. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 110% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for non-medical x-ray exports from Belarus, accounting for a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, non-medical x-ray exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Egypt (X tons), fivefold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to +29.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+12.4% per year) and the UK (+45.1% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-medical x-rays exports from Belarus, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 9.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States totaled +23.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+33.2% per year) and Egypt (+4.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average non-medical x-ray export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Belarus

In 2021, purchases abroad of non-medical x-rays decreased by -4.6% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 660% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 275%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest non-medical x-ray supplier to Belarus, with a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, non-medical x-ray imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), threefold. Finland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland stood at +58.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+35.1% per year) and Finland (+102.1% per year).

In value terms, the largest non-medical x-ray suppliers to Belarus were Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 73% share of total imports.

Poland, with a CAGR of +52.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average non-medical x-ray import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 100% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
