Pineapple Market Size in Belarus

The Belarusian pineapple market contracted remarkably to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -17.5% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, the total consumption indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -23.1% against 2019 indices. Pineapple consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of pineapples was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a sharp setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 384% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pineapple exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a sharp curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 583% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for pineapple exports from Belarus, with a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, pineapple exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lithuania (X kg), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia stood at -25.8%.

In value terms, Russia ($X) and Lithuania ($X) were the largest markets for pineapple exported from Belarus worldwide.

Among the main countries of destination, Lithuania, with a CAGR of -17.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average pineapple export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -28.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 87%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+16.4%).

Imports into Belarus

Pineapple imports into Belarus contracted dramatically to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -28.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 59%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pineapple imports declined notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 56%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Costa Rica (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of pineapple to Belarus, accounting for a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, pineapple imports from Costa Rica exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Lithuania (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X tons), with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Costa Rica totaled -1.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lithuania (-2.4% per year) and the Netherlands (-12.4% per year).

In value terms, Costa Rica ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pineapples to Belarus, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lithuania ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Costa Rica totaled +1.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lithuania (+2.4% per year) and the Netherlands (-9.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average pineapple import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
