Plastic Closure Market Size in Belarus

The Belarusian plastic closure market dropped to $X in 2022, reducing by -5.1% against the previous year. In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of plastic stoppers, caps and closures, when their volume decreased by -6.1% to X tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, plastic closure exports reached $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +78.4% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for plastic closure exports from Belarus, accounting for a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic closure exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X tons), sevenfold. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia amounted to +3.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (-1.1% per year) and Kazakhstan (+2.9% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for plastic stoppers, caps and closures exports from Belarus, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia amounted to +1.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (-1.6% per year) and Kazakhstan (+6.9% per year).

In 2022, the average plastic closure export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight contraction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, purchases abroad of plastic stoppers, caps and closures decreased by -14.5% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 56%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, plastic closure imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.6% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plastic closure to Belarus, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic closure imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Poland (X tons), with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Russia totaled +9.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+28.4% per year) and Poland (+2.9% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plastic stoppers, caps and closures to Belarus, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Russia totaled +8.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+24.4% per year) and Poland (+5.6% per year).

The average plastic closure import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild reduction. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
