Quince Market Size in Belarus

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in the Belarusian quince market, when its value decreased by -3.6% to $X. Overall, consumption showed a mild descent. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 445%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, quince exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 379% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for quince exports from Belarus, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia amounted to -7.4%.

From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, quince imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 900% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of quince to Belarus, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, quince imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Azerbaijan (X tons), fivefold. Bulgaria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey stood at +7.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Azerbaijan (-5.8% per year) and Bulgaria (+7.2% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of quinces to Belarus, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Azerbaijan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 6.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey stood at +7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Azerbaijan (+79.6% per year) and Bulgaria (+8.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average quince import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a pronounced increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 77%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Greece ($X per ton) and Bulgaria ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) and Azerbaijan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+90.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
