Exports from Belarus
In 2021, overseas shipments of roasted coffee (not decaffeinated) increased by 74% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 158% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 125% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Russia (X tons) was the main destination for non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports from Belarus, accounting for a 90% share of total exports. Moreover, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia totaled +23.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+44.7% per year) and Moldova (+42.9% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for roasted coffee (not decaffeinated) exports from Belarus, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 5.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia totaled +17.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+38.2% per year) and Moldova (+22.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average non-decaffeinated roasted coffee export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 8.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 13%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (-4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Non-Decaffeinated Roasted Coffee Imports
Imports into Belarus
For the fifth year in a row, Belarus recorded growth in purchases abroad of roasted coffee (not decaffeinated), which increased by 11% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +94.9% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest non-decaffeinated roasted coffee supplier to Belarus, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia totaled +13.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+9.0% per year) and Italy (+11.5% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of roasted coffee (not decaffeinated) to Belarus, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Russia amounted to +8.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+8.8% per year) and Germany (+4.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average non-decaffeinated roasted coffee import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 3.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 11%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
