The Belarusian market for salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal contracted to $X in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 216% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 166%. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Russia (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal from Belarus.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +55.6%).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal exports from Belarus, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 31% share of total exports.

Imports into Belarus

In 2022, supplies from abroad of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal decreased by -6.4% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 222%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 253%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal to Belarus, with a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), threefold. Russia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy totaled +58.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-9.0% per year) and Russia (+17.9% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal to Belarus, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy stood at +80.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+1.4% per year) and Austria (-14.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average import price for salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal amounted to $X per ton, declining by -4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 49% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
