In 2021, the Belarusian silicon dioxide market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, silicon dioxide exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted prominent growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for silicon dioxide exports from Belarus, with a 70% share of total exports. Moreover, silicon dioxide exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X tons), threefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+32.3% per year) and Kazakhstan (-11.2% per year).

The average silicon dioxide export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 38% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a strong increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silicon dioxide imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 30%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Russia (X tons), Germany (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of silicon dioxide imports to Belarus, with a combined 80% share of total imports.
