Plastic Support Market Size in Belarus

The Belarusian plastic support market stood at $X in 2022, picking up by 2.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a noticeable shrinkage. In 2022, overseas shipments of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics decreased by -6% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total exports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.8% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, plastic support exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +78.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for plastic support exports from Belarus, accounting for a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic support exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X tons), eightfold. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia totaled +3.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (-1.1% per year) and Kazakhstan (+2.9% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for spools, cops and similar supports of plastics exports from Belarus, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia totaled +1.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (-1.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (+6.9% per year).

In 2022, the average plastic support export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild shrinkage. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Poland ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) and Ukraine ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Belarus

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics decreased by -8.7% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, plastic support imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest plastic support supplier to Belarus, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic support imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), threefold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia totaled +10.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+28.3% per year) and Poland (+4.0% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of spools, cops and similar supports of plastics to Belarus, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Russia amounted to +8.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+24.3% per year) and Germany (-3.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average plastic support import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild curtailment. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
