Sulphites Market Size in Belarus

The Belarusian sulphites market soared to $X in 2022, growing by 161% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed modest growth. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 61%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, sulphites exports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 31%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for sulphites exports from Belarus, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphites exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Czech Republic (X tons), with a 3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-4.5% per year) and the Czech Republic (+37.1% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for sulphites exports from Belarus, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 4.5% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 2.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia totaled -5.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-10.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (+25.9% per year).

The average sulphites export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 22% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Belarus

In 2022, the amount of sulphites imported into Belarus dropped to X tons, shrinking by -8.8% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 87%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sulphites imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +95.4% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Turkey (X tons), China (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main suppliers of sulphites imports to Belarus, together comprising 81% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +29.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), China ($X) and Russia ($X) were the largest sulphites suppliers to Belarus, together accounting for 65% of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
