The Belarusian sugary soft drink market was estimated at $X in 2022, picking up by 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X litres in 2021, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, sugary soft drink exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
Russia (X litres) was the main destination for sugary soft drink exports from Belarus, with a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, sugary soft drink exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X litres), fivefold. Lithuania (X litres) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia stood at +15.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+66.9% per year) and Lithuania (+11.8% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for sugary soft drinks exports from Belarus, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 2.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia stood at +16.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+69.8% per year) and Lithuania (+14.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sugary soft drink export price amounted to $X per litre, picking up by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sugary soft drink export price increased by +52.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Belarus
In 2022, purchases abroad of sugary soft drinks decreased by -24.4% to X litres for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 70%. Imports peaked at X litres in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, sugary soft drink imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X litres) constituted the largest sugary soft drink supplier to Belarus, with a 78% share of total imports. Moreover, sugary soft drink imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X litres), sixfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia stood at +8.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+25.4% per year) and Hungary (+47.8% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sugary soft drinks to Belarus, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 14% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Russia stood at +6.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+25.4% per year) and Hungary (+40.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average sugary soft drink import price stood at $X per litre in 2022, picking up by 34% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight descent. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per litre), while the price for Russia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (-0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
